Online Guitar Lessons

One-on-one online guitar lessons for beginners, players returning after a break and guitarists who want to develop their playing.

These lessons are for you if

You are picking up the guitar for the first time and want structured guidance.

You have played the guitar before and want to pick it up again without necessarily starting all over again.

You can already play but want to develop further, understand music better or work on something specific.

You have something particular in mind: playing songs, learning melodies, improving rhythm, improvising, songwriting or understanding harmony.

You can explore both Western music and Classic Indian Songs.

Western Music

Lessons can include songs, improvisation, songwriting, harmony and developing a deeper understanding of music.

A familiar song can also take on a different character when you approach it through a different style. Here, Can't Buy Me Love is reimagined with a smooth Bossa Nova feel and a modern guitar sound.

Classic Indian Songs

You can learn Hindi film songs, including accompaniment, harmony, chord voicings and reharmonisation.

A classic Indian song created in a traditional style can also take on a different character when approached differently. Here, Gulabi Aankhen is reimagined with a light samba feel.

What you can learn

The lessons can cover different aspects of playing and music, depending on what you want to learn and play.

  • Songs: learning to play complete songs and understanding how the different parts fit together.
  • Melody: playing melodies, finding them on the guitar and understanding how they relate to chords.
  • Rhythm: developing timing, rhythm patterns and the ability to play comfortably with other musicians.
  • Technique: developing the physical skills needed for the music you want to play.
  • Improvisation: learning how to create and develop musical ideas rather than simply reproducing something you've learned.
  • Harmony: understanding chords, chord progressions, chord voicings and how they work with melody.
  • Songwriting: developing ideas into songs and understanding the musical choices behind them.
  • Music theory: learning the musical concepts that help you understand what you are playing and why it works.

What you work on can change as your playing develops.

How the lessons work

A one-on-one lesson starts with what you already know and can play. If you are a complete beginner, we start with the basics.

We look at how you play, what you want to achieve and where you need help. From there, we decide what deserves attention and what will help you move forward.

Your lessons can change as your playing develops, your understanding grows and your goals become clearer.

The question is always: what would be most useful for you to work on?

Who you will be learning with

Sebastian, known as The GuitarBaba, is a guitar educator, mentor, performer, composer and producer with more than 30 years of teaching and playing experience across jazz, blues, rock and Indian film music.

"Sometimes a student starts right from the beginning. Sometimes the teaching begins with what the student already knows. They may need to fill in gaps before they can make music. Or they may already be able to make music with what they know and continue learning and making more music as they go." — The GuitarBaba
