My musical life began on stage, playing with cover bands and moving through different styles of music. Those years were less about performance and more about listening, adjusting, and learning how music holds itself together.
Much of my early progress happened without access to a teacher, books, or the kind of musical information that is readily available today. I experienced how easily effort can turn into confusion and frustration when there is no direction. That experience shaped the way I teach today.
Teaching gives me a way to give back what I continue to learn, while composing music gives me a way to express it.
Sebastian Andrade’s teaching spans Western music, including jazz, blues and rock, alongside Bollywood and Indian film music.
Author of Jazz Guitar Turnarounds, a book focused on chord substitutions and developing your own turnarounds within jazz guitar and harmony.
Writes about music, guitar and the ways musicians understand and organize musical ideas. His writing includes Musical Thinking and Musical Structure.
Sebastian Andrade has worked as a composer, music producer, programmer and background-score musician across feature films, television, advertising and digital productions.
