Guitar Mentorship With The GuitarBaba
From scales to musical storytelling
Sebastian, known as The GuitarBaba, works with guitarists who want their playing to feel more musical.
Common Guitar Learning Problems
"I know my scales, but my solos sound boring."
"I know some licks and theory, but I don't know how to use them in a song."
"My timing sounds off when I play with a metronome."
"I am not sure what I should be practicing."
"I practice regularly, but I don't see any improvement."
"I can play reasonably well, but I get nervous when others are listening."
Chances are you’ve experienced at least one of them, and at some point asked yourself:
How can I improve my guitar playing?
Often, there is no clear direction on what to learn, understand, and repeat.
This is where guidance becomes important.
The role of a Mentor
A mentor is both a mirror and a guide.
The mirror reflects what you cannot see within your own effort. It brings attention to patterns in how you play, listen, and respond to difficulty.
The guide helps you work with what is revealed. Clarity deepens and small adjustments begin to carry meaning.
This leads to steady learning and begins to shape your playing.
How Mentorship Helps
When guitarists come to me for an assessment session, this is what I usually hear:
"I know scales, but I don't know how to improvise."
The scale shapes may be familiar, but maybe there is no melody in mind before playing. Maybe there is no clear idea of what to play apart from the same memorized licks, so the playing sounds repetitive.
"I have never been able to play a complete song."
There could be different reasons for this. It might be the constant back and forth of looking at the chord chart on the screen, checking the fretboard for the shape, and then watching the right hand to hit the strings. By then, the backing track has already moved ahead.
"I have been playing for years, but I don't feel any improvement in my playing."
Maybe the practice time goes into playing the things that already sound good. The same things get repeated every day while the areas that need attention remain untouched. Sometimes a guitarist may not even know what those areas are.
A guitarist experiences the problem.
A mentor can see several possible reasons for the problem.

What Students Have Shared
Begin with an Assessment Session
An assessment session is the starting point for structured mentorship. It clarifies your current stage of learning and helps determine if this approach aligns with your intention.
